The Fourth Trimester.

That's what we in the field call the first three months after a baby's birth. Compared to other mammal babies, human babies are born very immature and depend on their parents a great deal. Newborns are a lot of work! In the U.S., new families often go it alone.

Throughout history and around the world, new parents and babies have been nurtured by their family, friends, and communities during this special time. Some of us are trying to bring this practice back into fashion! We mother you so that you can mother your baby.

I am in network with Aetna, Cigna, Mass General Brigham Health Plan, and TRICARE insurance companies. My biller will submit your claim for you and your baby in order for your insurance company to pay me directly. You will be billed for any deductibles, copays, and coinsurance costs that your insurance company claims is due.

For my clients with different insurance plans, when you schedule your appointment, you will be asked for credit card information and to pay in advance, so you can get that out of the way. I provide a superbill receipt for you to give to your insurance company so that they can reimburse you. Unfortunately, MassHealth does not reimburse for lactation care, but I will see MassHealth families at a reduced rate.

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) of 2012 requires health plans in the United States to cover “breastfeeding support, supplies and counseling by a trained provider during pregnancy and/or in the postpartum period.”  Therefore, when you paid your insurance premium, you already paid for lactation care. Get reimbursed; don't pay twice! Please call the Massachusetts Insurance Commissioner if your insurer does not comply with the law: (617) 521-7794.
